Dragons, forbidden love, and deception, oh my! That’s right, folks! It’s time to climb aboard the Game of Thrones hype train for HBO’s House of the Dragon trailer. Debuting ahead of this year’s Comic-Con celebration, the House of the Dragon trailer looks at another war for the Iron Throne.

The upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off is set hundreds of years before the original series. It is based upon George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a Targaryen history book that chronicles the history of House Targaryen, starting with “Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and [going on] to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold the throne, all the way up to the civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons, that nearly tore their dynasty apart.” Miguel Sapochnik, who helmed many episodes of Game of Thrones, has previously teased that House of the Dragon will have its own tone compared to Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon comes from co-creators and showrunners Ryan Condal (Colony) and Miguel Sapochnik (Finch). The series stars Matt Smith as dragonrider Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon (also known as the Sea Snake), Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.

George R.R. Martin announced that filming had wrapped on the first season of House of the Dragon on his blog. “Yes, all ten episodes,” Martin wrote. “I have seen rough cuts of a few of them, and I’m loving them. Of course, a lot more work needs to be done. Special effects, color timing, score, all the post production work. But the writing, the directing, the acting all look terrific. I hope you will like them as much as I do. My hat is off to Ryan and Miguel and their team, and to our amazing cast.”

HBO Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys also told Variety they’re already considering a second season renewal. “If you’re betting on whether we’re going to do a second season, I think it’s probably a pretty good bet,” Bloys said. “Generally speaking, we usually let something air and see how it does, but obviously, we’ll make preparations ahead of time to make sure we’re ahead of the game.”
