Amblin has just picked up U.K. filmmaker Paul Taylor's hot horror short THE BLUE DOOR in a "competitive situation" and plans to make it into a feature soon. Taylor will be returning to direct the feature-length version, with writer-producers Megan Pugh and Ben Clark returning to also pen the new script. The feature version is said to have a strong dramatic core combined with high-concept horror mythology. Whatever that means.
The short was nominated for a BAFTA earlier this year and centers on:
A nurse assigned to an elderly woman living in a dilapidated home. The nurse unwittingly becomes the focus of a dark entity that is connected to a secret blue door that, once opened, has devastating consequences.
The Picture Company partners Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona will produce the project with Good Fear Film + Managment's Jake Wagner and Scott Stoops serving as executive producers. Van Toffler and Floris Bauer of Gunpowder & Sky, whose Alter label premiered the short film online, will also executive produce. Pugh and Clark will co-produce.
