I’m sure those of you following the world of videogames are well aware that this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo is currently underway in LA. We’re already past some of the major companies’ press conferences that showcased brand new trailers and footage from several highly anticipated horror videogames. Head on down to check out what you might be playing over the following months.
First off, Capcom showed off a spiffy new trailer from RESIDENT EVIL 6, the latest installment in the neverending zombie saga. It’s heavier on action than scares, but fans will likely appreciate the presence of series mainstays such as Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy, as well as the usual mutated beasties and cheesy drama. You can preorder the game HERE(PS3) or HERE(Xbox 360).
Speaking of ditching scares for action, EA seems to be going in Capcom’s footsteps with their sci-fi horror franchise. The first trailer for DEAD SPACE 3 is loud, proud, full of big-ass monsters and explosions. Still, here’s hoping that the final product will retain its share of creepy corridors and suspense.
Further on, Naughty Dog (of UNCHARTED fame) finally revealed some actual gameplay footage from their post-apocalyptic survival game THE LAST OF US. If you dig the lone survivor vibe a la THE ROAD or I AM LEGEND, you owe it to yourself to check it out. The visuals and the quality of acting alone might set a new standard within the industry. You can preorder it HERE.
Another game that focuses on the story and characters is Quantic Dream’s BEYOND: TWO SOULS. The creators of HEAVY RAIN are no strangers to creating highly cinematic gaming experiences and this one looks to be another one. Perhaps even more intriguing is the fact that the game will star none other than Ellen Page (HARD CANDY, INCEPTION) as “a young woman who has a connection to the world beyond death”. Looks promising to say the least.
Last but not least, those of you who tend to associate Nintendo with kiddy fare might soon be forced to reevaluate that outlook. The brand new trailer for the Wii U exclusive ZOMBI U has zombies, blood, mutilation and havoc aplenty, accompanied by a somewhat haunting rendition of “God Save the Queen”.
Phew! Talk about sensory overload. And there’s probably more to come from E3 over the next couple of days.
