Horror @ the Box Office – June 24-26: Super 8 takes the #4 spot

While CARS 2 and BAD TEACHER took the top two spots as expected. J.J. Abrams’ SUPER 8 came in at #4 with $12.1 million. With a total gross of over $95 million in its third week, it has surpassed the final grosses of the similarly themed CLOVERFIELD and BATTLE: LOS ANGELES and is tracking ahead of DISTRICT 9.

Meanwhile, Matthew Vaughn’s X-MEN: FIRST CLASS had its smalled decline yet with another $6.6 million at #6. Duncan Jones’ SOURCE CODE made an addition $69,000 in its limited remaining theaters, while Wes Craven’s SCREAM 4 picked up $6,000 at 18 locations.

We now have Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON to look forward to. It will play in 3D and IMAX theaters tomorrow before hitting regular screens on Wednesday. Early buzz for the flick says its an improvement over the lackluster second entry. Nick Tomnay’s THE PERFECT HOST will also receive a limited theatrical run next weekend.
