I hope you all had a good father’s day weekend. GREEN LANTERN claimed the top spot at the box office, but J.J. Abrams’ SUPER 8 was right behind it at #2. It raked in $21.3 million with a drop off of only 40% – which makes sense since it was a good flick to catch with your old man. Its ten-day performance is on par with that of DISTRICT 9.
Matthew Vaughn’s X-MEN: FIRST CLASS pulled in another $11.5 million in its third week. As for the older stuff, Duncan Jones’ SOURCE CODE made $111,000 at around #22 and Wes Craven’s SCREAM 4, which is still playing a handful of theaters, made $14,000.
There’s nothing genre-related to look forward to next week, just CARS 2 and BAD TEACHER. The following week, however, we will see how the new TRANSFORMERS flick performs. Until then, I suggest catching SUPER 8 if you haven’t already done so.
