The trailer for ZOMBEAVERS director Jordan Rubin's new film THE DRONE had me fooled for a moment – when it began, I thought YouTube was forcing to me sit through some dull ad before the actual trailer started. But then things in this "ad" took a dark turn… although the horror in THE DRONE obviously comes along with a healthy dose of comedy.
A feature expansion of a faux trailer Rubin released online a few years ago, this film is about
a drone that has become sentient with the consciousness of a deranged serial killer. It then flies off to terrorize newlyweds Rachel and Chris, who must fight to stop the insidious device before it destroys them both.
Alex Essoe, John Brotherton, Anita Briem, Neil Sandilands, Rex Linn, Simon Rex, Sam Adegoke, and Christopher Matthew star.
Rubin wrote the screenplay with his ZOMBEAVERS co-writers Al and Jon Kaplan, and produced the film with Adam Sidman. Ana Liza Muravina, Maria Zatulovskaya, and Igor Tsay serve as executive producers. The film is coming to us from Timur Bekmambetov's production company Bazelevs.
THE DRONE hasn't secured distribution yet, but will be making its premiere at the Slamdance film festive in Park City, Utah later this month.
Before THE DRONE receives a wide release, we're supposed to be seeing the Rubin-directed web series Critters: A New Binge, which is expected to receive some kind of release in March.
I wasn't a big fan of ZOMBEAVERS, but THE DRONE looks like fun to me.
