As we all know by this point in time, the DC universe streaming service has a SWAMP THING series headed our may this May. But today we have bad news as it seems the powers that be behind the scenes have shut down production of the series as they evaluate the future of its DC Universe streaming service. Virginia Madsen confirmed the shutdown Wednesday morning on Instagram with a post that read:
I’m beyond sad. What a terrible decision. We have been cut to the core by those who have never set foot into the Swamp. And despite the rule, I am going to use the hashtag. #swampthing.
The post was deleted minutes later.
The show was originally set to film 13 episodes but recently the show's writers and producers were told to wrap production on episode 10 and rewrite the ending. Ouch. The news comes on the heels of Disney announcing its new Disney+ streaming platform, which is a direct competitor of DC. It's not clear what the future of the show will be if the DC Universe service is scrapped. We'll let you know as soon as we hear more!
Len Wiseman directs the new series from a script by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. The cast includes Andy Bean as biologist Alec Holland and Crystal Reed as CDC Doctor Abby Arcane. Here's the rundown for the new series:
Abby Arcane investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Bean and Reed star in this new series along with Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Will Patton, Henderson Wade, Ian Ziering, and Kevin Durand, with Derek Mears as Swamp Thing himself. James Wan's company Atomic Monster is producing Swamp Thing in association with Warner Bros. Television. Wan, Wiseman, Verheiden, and Dauberman also serve as executive producers on the series with Michael Clear. Rob Hackett is co-producer. Swamp Thing MIGHT be released through the DC Universe streaming service on May 31st.
