Warner Bros wants IT considered for top Oscars including Best Picture

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

A few months back we posted an article featuring super horror producer Jason Blum talking about why he thinks horror movies don't get any love at the Oscars. At least not on the regular.

This topic is always of interest to me, but more so than ever this year as I truly believe Jordan Peele's GET OUT deserves more than a few Oscars come March – least of all Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay nods.

And speaking of horror at the Academy Awards turns out Warner Bros. is swinging for the fences on behalf of their uber-hit STEPHEN KING'S IT, which they want to be considered for nominations in the following categories:

Best Picture

Best Director

Best Adapted Screenplay

Best Cinematography

Best Production Design

Best Film Editing

Best Costume Design

Best Visual Effects

Best Sound Mixing

Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Best Original Score

On top of those categories, Warner Bros. is also attempting to court the Academy to consider the horror film for the categories of:

Best Supporting Actor:

Jaeden Lieberher
Wyatt Oleff
Jeremy Ray Taylor
Finn Wolfhard
Jack Dylan Grazer
Chosen Jacobs
Bill Skarsgard

Best Supporting Actress:

Sophia Lillis

I fully stand behind the idea of little Sophia Lillis getting a nod for her turn a Beverly Marsh, and of course I could see Skarsgard getting a nod for the creepiest clown since Heath Ledger's Joker.

The rest are a bit up in the air. Makeup and Hairstyling seem like a given as well as Costume Design, but Best Picture? Meh. As much as I like the flick – liked not loved – I think if any film is going to snag major Oscars this year on behalf of our beloved genre, it will be Jordan Peele's GET OUT.

What do you think of STEPHEN KING'S IT going for the gold at this year's Oscars? Make sure to hit us up and let us know in the all-new comments section below or on social media!
