EPISODE 6: Swear
THE HOOK: Tara wakes up stranded on the beach only to find she’s not alone.
The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS, so I don't recommend reading this if you haven't watched this episode
THE LOWDOWN: I totally forgot Tara and Heath went on a supply run at the end of last season (in my defense though, there was kinda’ve a lot going on). I like Tara. Heath, not so much. He’s whiny and totally a ‘glass half empty’ kind of guy. The whole bridge set up was a no-brainer. When you start by saying “we’ll just check this one last place, then go home”, you know shit’s going down. The bridge walkers were cool, the scenario was cool, and honestly, I didn’t mind an all Tara adventure. Not every character could pull that off, but she did just fine.
After going on about all these new communities popping up before, I had to laugh when yet another one showed up out of nowhere. I’m not at all impressed by their lack of security though. Yes, they have a pile of guns, sentries and…bells, but seeing as how they’re in the woods with lots of able bodies, I expected more. I get that they want to remain hidden as much as possible, but a few sharped posts and barriers wouldn’t hurt, especially since they have so many damn kids running around.
Now I can’t say I blame these women for killing on site, especially after hearing what happened to all their men. The Saviors may have the numbers right now, but their list of enemies seems ever growing. They had me fooled into thinking they were actually going to let Tara go and start up an alliance, until I saw two of them escorting her out (it also didn’t help that the trailer for this week’s episode kinda spoiled it too). I’m happy Tara got away, but I wouldn’t have been angry if these people killed her. This is one area this show has really begun to excel in, showing a multitude of groups who aren’t just ‘this season’s villains’, but legitimate people trying to survive. Everyone’s got a story, an angle and a reason to root for them. I like that it’s not just Rick and them vs. everyone else. The stakes feel higher now.
THE WALKING DEAD Season 7’s sixth episode adds yet another layer of diversity, whilst (at least in my mind) answering a very important question: How is Rick going to get his people more guns and bodies to fight Negan? Yes, Tara kept her word and didn’t talk about this new group (not that I blame her, Rosita definitely isn’t the person to share this news with), but c’mon, you can’t tell me the first thing that popped into your head when you saw that stash of guns wasn’t “AHA!” I don’t think The Hilltop has much to offer, but these new chicks and The Kingdom may be enough to turn the tables. That said, when it happens, I’m expecting a bit of help on the inside too. Time will tell, but with two episodes left until the hiatus, I’m assuming we’ll see something happen very soon.
ZOMBIE KILL OF THE WEEK: Tara impales a sand walker on the bridge right through the throat.
BLOOD AND GORE: There’s some walker action on the bridge, consisting of some headshots and stabbings, but they're pretty dried out so there’s not much splatter to them.
COOLEST SCENE: I really enjoyed the supper scene, the storytelling and truth discussion. Like I said, I’m loving this added layer of survivor diversity. It’s not just black and white anymore.
