Tragedy strikes the shoot of The Expendables 2, a stuntman dies and another critical after stunt goes wrong

Rather sad and tragic news out of THE EXPENDABLES 2 camp this morning, and one I sadly bring to you.

Last night during the Bulgarian shoot of the film, a stunt with explosions was being performed by the films 2nd Unit Stunt Team, consisting of two men. Something went wrong and one of the men lost their lives and the other survived but in critical condition. The stunt was performed on a reservoir 15 miles out of the capital Sofia. The local police have launched an investigation into the incident. No further details have been revealed out of respect to the families of the men involved.

Director Simon West and star Sylvestor Stallone were not there when the accident occurred and were filming near a mountain resort. Nu Image and Millennium Films issued a statement in regards to the events. “It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident. Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident.”

This tragedy casts a dark shadow over the film, and our thoughts certainly go out to those involved as well as their families. We will bring you updates on the situation as it unfolds and wonder what the future holds for the production.
