Nic Mathieu's sci-fi thriller SPECTRAL has lived up to its name, vanishing from the schedule before its previously announced release date in August. Luckily, Netflix has swooped in with their spectrometers buzzing, nabbing the film for a December 9th global streaming release.
I don't know how SPECTRAL slipped out of our fingers earlier this year, because it sounds awesome. Shot with practical effects on location in Budapest, it brings together a score from fan favorite Junkie XL and effects from Peter Jackson's Weta in a combination that should have had nerds drooling in their seats. But that's all water under the bridge now. I'm just glad we'll all get a chance to see it soon. (It went into production back in 2014.)
In SPECTRAL, which is based on a story by Ian Fried and Mathieu and written by George Nolfi:
A brilliant DARPA scientist embarks on a deadly mission with a Special Ops team of Delta Force soldiers into a battle-scarred, war-torn city, where mysterious phantom aggressors code-named Spectral have been causing inexplicable civilians deaths.
SPECTRAL stars James Badge Dale, Emily Mortimer, Max Martini and Bruce Greenwood. It was produced by Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, and Jillian Share.
