If you ask me, it's impossible to remake THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. The original is a cult classic for a lot of, mostly accidental, reasons and it will be wholly impossible to recapture the lightning in a bottle of 40 years of midnight screenings. But since when has Fox asked my opinion on anything?
They're moving ahead in their casting, bringing on Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan as Brad and Janet, the parts originated by Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick. Justice, who is best known for her Nickelodeon show Victorious has most recently starred in the cheesy teen lit sex comedy NAOMI AND ELY'S NO KISS LIST. McCartan is relatively unknown, but at least he has made a genre appearance in the TV movie R. L. STINE'S MONSTERVILLE: THE CABINET OF SOULS.
It looks like Fox is continuing the grand remake tradition of casting impossibly hot actors to replace the normal looking stars of yesteryear. Hooray.
THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW follows sweethearts Janet Weiss and Brad Majors, played in the movie by Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick, who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s bizarre abode. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous flirtatious alien mad-scientist, is holding an annual Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of “Rocky Horror” – a fit, attractive man created solely to fulfill Frank’s desires.
Fox's ROCKY HORROR also stars Orange is the New Black's Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega, the fall 2016 premiere is hanging like a Sword of Damocles over our heads.
