I thought we had already seen the last Purge. In THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR, a presidential candidate who vowed to end the annual tradition of Purge Night won the election, so it seemed like a done deal. That's why the next film in the series had to go back to THE FIRST PURGE, because there wasn't going to be any more of them after ELECTION YEAR. But maybe it wasn't that easy to end the Purge. It would make some sense if ending the Purge was complicated, as a POTUS isn't always able to carry out their agenda as expected.
PURGE franchise creator James DeMonaco does have an idea for ending the series, though, and during a conversation with Entertainment Weekly he revealed that ending may be coming in the next PURGE movie.
I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home."
From that quote, it also sounds like there wouldn't be any more seasons of the Purge television show, which is currently airing on USA Network on Tuesday nights.
Of course, if DeMonaco does write the final chapter of THE PURGE that he has in mind, there's always a chance the series will continue if the film is financially successful… And it likely would be, as these movies keep doing better and better at the global box office.
