The Invited trailer

Well well, if Ryan McKinney’s supernatural spookster THE INVITED (aka THE CONJURING) isn’t light years ahead of its 2009 antonymous namesake (THE UNINVITED), let’s hope the thing is at least watchable.

But why would it be, you may muse? To that I say throw in an oddball squad of Lou Diamond Phillips, Pam Grier, Dana Barron (the OG Audrey Griswold), Megan Ward (who I remember as the cute chick in PCU), the front-man for Papa Roach, Jacoby Shaddix – and a goddamn Ouija board – some good ole b-picture fun is to be had.

McKinney, who co-wrote the script, posits his feature length debut about:

A young married couple who are pregnant with their first child, who moves into their turn-of-the-century home where they discover that a great evil has resided there for nearly a century, unleashed by a previous occupant.

In cleaning out antique items left by previous residents, the wife comes across a “game” created by a young woman in 1920 – a spirit board. Conflict ensues when the husband forbids the wife from playing with it. The naive wife fails to respect his warnings and all Hell is unleashed into her life, robbing her of all she holds dear. Her life and soul soon hang in the balance.

As the first entry under the Dark Portal production banner, no release is insight, though with time-a-tickin’ a 2010 direct-to-video release is more likely than the current unspecified 2009 timeframe.

Cop a peek below of Lou Diamond screaming at the Ouija with tear-filled histrionics.
