Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Steven Spielberg & Richard Donner’s THE GOONIES with Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, and Corey Feldman turns 35 this year. And today we learned that to celebrate the 35th anniversary, Oregon Film and Travel Oregon will offer public screenings of the movie in five cities around the state.

During the four-day event, fans can hear tales about filming from those who were there, bowl at “Chunk’s Bowling Alley”, and embark on an interactive scavenger hunt. Official memorabilia, including t-shirts, and more, will be available at the event’s headquarters, the Astoria Armory.

This celebration is dedicated to the amazing fans and the special places where it was filmed. We hope [it] will find [fans] on location reliving one of the most beloved coming-of-age stories of the 1980s. We’re so lucky as a state to have these creative partners to bring together a community to celebrate a film like this. It’s always such a pleasure to remind people of the deep and exciting history this state has with film, and then gather together in places like Astoria to showcase famous Oregon locations.

Tickets can be pre-ordered online, or the day of each screening. Visit the event’s website for more info HERE. Will YOU be going? Let us know below!

In the meantime, THE GOONIES is written by Chris Columbus (GREMLINS) and is an old-fashioned yarn about a band of adventurous kids who take on the might of a property developing company that plans to destroy their home to build a country club. When the children discover an old pirate map in the attic, they follow it into an underground cavern in search of lost treasure but come up against plenty of dangerous obstacles along the way.

It was directed by Richard Donner (THE OMEN) from a screenplay written by Chris Columbus (GREMLINS) based on a story by Steven Spielberg. Donner produced with Harvey Bernhard and the film featured Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan. Warner Bros. released it back on June 7, 1985. You can snag a copy on Blu-ray over on Amazon right over HERE.
