Pretty much anybody who loved film in the 90's was obsessed with Mystery Science Theater 3000 (aka MST3K), the show where a host and his robot buddies were trapped on a spaceship, forced to watch bad movies while a mad scientist monitored their brains. Their only escape? Riffing. The show inspired legions of fans to host their own MST3K nights, where their friends would mock terrible movies.
Although the show ended back in 1999, it was sort of resurrected in 2006 as Rifftrax, featuring second host Michael J. Nelson, along with his co-stars Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, who played Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot on the show. Although these riffs were only audio commentaries rather than silhouettes interacting with a film, they became quite popular, leading to many live performances broadcast to theaters across the country in recent years, riffing films like MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE and BIRDEMIC: SHOCK AND TERROR.
For their tenth anniversary, they wanted to pull out all the stops. And boy did they. On Thursday, June 28, they will be hosting a live event streamed live to cinemas. This isn't unusual in and of itself, but they've sweetened the pot. This event will reunite all the original MST3K cast members, bringing on original host Joel Hodgson and new host Jonah Rey, as well as Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank), Trace Beaulieu (Dr. Clayton Forrester, Crow T. Robot), Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester), and Bridget Nelson (Nuveena, Mr. B Natural).
This is pretty much a must-see event for fans of the show, in which they will "riff on a cavalcade of goofy, educational short films and comic interludes before concluding the evening with a grand finale SUPER RIFF-A-PALOOZA!” You can pick up tickets RIGHT HERE starting April 15th.
