The Morgan Creek production company is working to revive a lot of the properties they have in their library. Projects they have in the works include an Amazon series based on David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers (with Rachel Weisz signed on to star), a new Exorcist movie that will be produced by Blumhouse and directed by David Gordon Green, a reboot of the 2011 film Dream House, and a television series that will be a gender swapped version of the 1990 thriller Pacific Heights.
Something else Morgan Creek is planning is a follow-up to the 1993 erotic thriller The Crush (watch it HERE). But this isn't coming in the form of a movie or a TV show, this is part of Morgan Creek's expansion into the publishing of original content. During an interview with Park Circus, Morgan Creek said they're working with William Morrow and Three Arts Entertainment on
a young adult sequel to The Crush.
Written and directed by Alan Shapiro, The Crush told the following story:
Writer Nick Eliot (Cary Elwes) moves to a new city for a magazine job and rents a room in the house of Cliff (Kurtwood Smith) and Liv Forrester (Gwynyth Walsh), whose 14-year-old daughter, Adrian (Alicia Silverstone), instantly makes her attraction to Nick clear. While Nick romances photographer Amy Maddik (Jennifer Rubin) at work, he has trouble fending off Adrian's advances. As her obsession with Nick grows, Adrian becomes angry at being rejected and starts attacking his property and friends.
I have clear memories of watching The Crush with my family when it first reached VHS back in the day, that movie seemed like a big deal to me, so this sequel novel definitely has my attention. It will be interesting to see how exactly this book aimed at young adult readers will be connected to the film that was released long before they were born.
