Well, I guess it was only a matter of time but today we have official word that the powers that be over at STXfilms that they are all geared up and ready to make a sequel to the Lauren Cohan and Rupert Evans starring PG-13 horror-thriller, THE BOY.
Director William Brent Bell’s original film was produced for less than $15 million and grossed $68M worldwide so, yeah, a sequel was basically a given. What's surprising though is this will not be a mini-budget follow-up it seems as we also have confirmation that Katie Holmes (BATMAN BEGINS, DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK) will headline the cast in the role of ‘Liza’.
Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi commented:
Following the success of The Boy, we are thrilled to be working on the next chapter of this chilling Brahms story with Stacey and William. We are also delighted to be continuing our relationship with STX, on this, our third partnership.
Bell (THE BOY, THE DEVIL INSIDE) will return to direct the sequel, which will follow
A young family that moves into the Heelshire Mansion unaware of the terrifying history of the estate. Once there, their young son soon makes an unsettling new friend, an eerily life-like doll he calls Brahms.
