Last month we shared your first look at STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment's follow-up to horror film director William Brent Bell’s PG-13 horror-thriller, THE BOY starring Lauren Cohan and Rupert Evans. The film began principal photography earlier this year in Vancouver, British Columbia, and today we have word THE BOY 2 will be creeping around in the walls of your local multiplex come July 26, 2019.
If this is true, then the movie will be in direct competition with Quentin Tarantino's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie. I'm sorry, did I say "direct competition." Hahaha. I can be so silly sometimes.
Cohan and Evans are not returning this time around and have instead been replaced with Katie Holmes (BATMAN BEGINS) who leads the cast with Christopher Convery (THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB) to co-star as her son. Owain Yeoman (THE BELKO EXPERIMENT) joins as her husband, and Ralph Ineson (HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS) will play the role of “Joseph.” Brent Bell returns to the helm.
The movie follows this synopsis:
Unaware of the terrifying history of Heelshire Mansion, a young family moves into the estate, where their young son soon makes an unsettling new friend, an eerily life-like doll he calls Brahms.
Written by Stacey Menear, who also penned its predecessor, THE BOY 2 will be produced by Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Eric Reid, in addition to Matt Berenson, Jim Wedaa and Roy Lee. The original film was produced for less than $15 million and grossed $68M worldwide so, yeah, a sequel was basically a given. THE BOY 2 will be creeping around in the walls of your local multiplex come July 26, 2019.
