The third season of Netflix’s original series STRANGER THINGS has begun filming and today we have word via producer (and sometimes episode director) Shawn Levy that this new season will not be all fun in the sun. In fact STRANGER THINGS 3 will be the darkest season of the series to date.
Producer Shawn Levy:
… season 3 has a really healthy dose of poppy, bright levity and cultural fun. But I can only promise you that season 3 eventually goes places that are darker, and unquestionably more action-packed than we’ve ever gone before.
I’m all for a darker third season of the Netflix original series. After all, I’m one of those people that preferred STRANGER THINGS 2 to the original first season. Let’s hope the series keeps learning from their mistakes and gives us a third season that’s even better than the first two!
The third season of Stranger Things is set during the summer of 1985. Series creators the Duffer Brothers have said the characters are still going to be dealing with the evil creature called the Mind Flayer:
They’ve shut the door on the Mind Flayer, but not only is it still there in the Upside Down, it’s very much aware of the kids, and particularly Eleven. It had not encountered her and her powers until that final episode (of season 2). Now, it knows that she’s out there.”
Returning stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Dacre Montgomery, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, Winona Ryder, and David Harbour are being joined on the show by new cast members Francesca Reale, Maya Hawke, Jake Busey, and Cary Elwes.
Again, we don’t know for sure when the third season of Netflix’s STRANGER THINGS will be hitting, but until we do, you can always go re-binge-watch seasons one and two over on Netflix.
