Director Robert Rodriguez and actress Michelle Rodriguez have worked together on MACHETE, MACHETE KILLS, and the upcoming ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, and now they're teaming up for the fourth time on a project called The Limit – which, unlike their previous collaborations, will not be coming to theatre screens.
Production has wrapped on The Limit, which is a short-form first-person POV virtual reality action series that's coming to us from STXsurreal. The series will be released as a paid title on the Surreal app this summer.
Robert Rodriguez wrote, directed, and produced the series, which stars Michelle Rodriguez as
a genetically enhanced weapon of mass destruction hellbent on destroying the covert agency that created her.
That sounds like a lot of fun… which I'll probably never get to experience, since I haven't gotten into VR entertainment at all, and don't have any intention of doing so any time soon.
Acquired by STX Entertainment in 2016, the VR company Surreal was founded by Rick Rey and Andy Vick, who were previously executives at Disney's Maker Studios. Rey said The Limit is
a first-of-its kind series in a new format that delivers a blockbuster, lean-back cinematic experience that audiences can’t find anywhere else in the VR marketplace right now."
If you're into VR, watch for The Limit to show up on the Surreal app later this year.
