Resident Evil series in development at Netflix

Resident Evil

There might be a whole lot more Resident Evil coming our way. With Paul W.S. Anderson's six part film series wrapped up, rights holder Constantin Film recently hired Johannes Roberts (47 METERS DOWN, THE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT) to write and direct a reboot, and now they're also teaming with Netflix to develop a series based on the video game property as well.

Constantin and Netflix are currently searching for the right showrunner to "shepherd the adaptation".

Deadline's Nellie Andreeva heard that

the plan is for the series to expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the exiting mythology. I hear the series will keep the basic premise, which also served as a setup for the movie franchise. The drama series will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus.

Having a Resident Evil series on Netflix could be great, but I really hope the show would stick closer to the video games than Anderson's movies did.

We'll keep you updated on this project as Constantin and Netflix continue to push it forward.
