Remake of Who Can Kill a Child (Come out and Play) gets picked up by Celsius Entertainment

I love me some killer kid flicks, but damn, this little bugger’s been hard as hell to pin down…

Way back in January, word came in that the gorgeous Vinessa Shaw (below) had agreed to star in a remake of ’70s classic WHO CAN KILL A CHILD? At the time, the remake was referred to as CHILD’S PLAY. But of course, a real CHILD’S PLAY sequel has been announced, and thus, the remake of WHO CAN KILL A CHILD is now officially titled COME OUT AND PLAY. Got that straight? Good, me too.

Now on to the real news. After scoring a few stills out of TIFF last month, then premiering at the bash this week, word from Screen Daily is Celsius Entertainment has acquired worldwide right to COME OUT AND PLAY, leaving North American distro-duties to Cinetic. The flick, directed by the enigmatic Makinov, also stars Ebon Moss and Daniel Gimenez Cacho.

In the film, Vinessa Shaw stars as a pregnant woman whose remote Mexican island getaway is terrorized by demonically possessed children.

Perfectly swell, but still doesn’t do justice to the original 1976 film. Keep the dour tone and depressing ending and you may have something, otherwise what’s the point?

Stay close for a release date sure to follow…
