Night of the Living Dead returns to theaters in 4K!

Count me a bit behind the times with this one, but it turns out that George A. Romero's classic flick NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (my personal favorite Romero movie) received a 4K treatment by way of the Museum of Modern Art and The Film Foundation a while back. The 4K restoration was shown at the Museum of Modern Art a few times and that was that.

Until today.

Turns out Janus Films has picked up the 4K version of NIGHT for theatrical distribution! The official statement was released on The Living Dead Festival's Facebook page by a guy named Gary Streiner.

You can read the full statement below, but the gist of it is Janus Films is looking to get the film back into theaters across the country!

It all feels a bit surreal, a bit anticlimactic at the same time. After years of keeping quiet about MoMA and the restoration, we are now faced with a new reality. Night of the Living Dead has found a home at Janus Films for its theatrical distribution.

Janus is credited with introducing numerous films, now considered masterpieces of world cinema, to American audiences, including the films of Michelangelo Antonioni, Sergei Eisenstein, Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, Akira Kurosawa, François Truffaut, Yasujirō Ozu and many other well-regarded directors. Now they're adding George A. Romero and Night of the Living Dead to the list.

Janus Films has already started booking Night into theaters. Its exclusive opening will be Friday, Oct, 13th at the renowned Film Forum in New York City. We at Image Ten are so happy that Janus of all companies is so energized to get Night back into theaters. 

With the growing strength of Independent Theater chains, DCP and Night's crispy new restoration we are able to get the film out into theaters across the country once again. 

This is all very new information and as new bookings come in Janus will have their calendar up. We will post update information here as well. This will be the chance you have all been asking for. Yes, with much pride Night will be coming to a theater near you!

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is one of the first films to scare me deeply in a "my little mind never gave a thought to the end of the world before" kind of horror.
