Next month will see the release of the sci-fi thriller LIFE, directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by ZOMBIELAND / DEADPOOL writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The film is about

a team of scientists aboard the International Space Station whose mission of discovery turns to one of primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.

Promos have made it clear that LIFE will feature a planet-destroying creature rampaging around the space station, but just because there are clear similarities to ALIEN doesn't mean this is yet another in a long line of mindless ALIEN cash-ins.

Sony Pictures wants to let you know that LIFE has an intellectual side, as evident from a newly released featurette which has interviews not with the actors but with a geneticist and a space and emergency medicine expert. Sure, we get these smart guys talking about exploring Mars and making important discoveries, but my favorite thing about this featurette is a clip from the film where star Ryan Reynolds makes a RE-ANIMATOR reference. A bit of Wernick and Reese's zombie past shining through.

Reynolds' co-stars in LIFE include Rebecca Ferguson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Olga Dykhovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

LIFE reaches theatres on March 24th.
