Mindhunter season 3: Netflix and David Fincher in talks to revive series

The second season of the serial killer series Mindhunter was released on the Netflix streaming service back in 2019, and soon after, the show was put on indefinite hold because executive producer and "de facto showrunner" David Fincher wanted to focus on directing the film Mank and producing the second season of the animated anthology Love, Death & Robots. Fincher was so focused on those other projects, Mindhunter stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv were even released from their contracts so they could pursue other work instead of waiting for Fincher to get around to Mindhunter season 3. Well, Mank has already been released, and the new season of Love, Death & Robots will be available to watch on Netflix as of May 14th, so it makes sense – and is a bit of a relief – to hear that Fincher is now talking to Netflix about reviving Mindhunter.

The website Small Screen reports that sources close to Netflix have informed them 

conversations between Netflix and Fincher are ongoing. They are discussing the possibility of bringing the show back for a third season. It’s still very early days, but Fincher sounds more upbeat about the project.

Fincher had previously said that running Mindhunter had been a very exhausting experience for him.

Catching a criminal often requires the authorities to get inside the villain's mind to figure out how he thinks. That's the job of FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench. They attempt to understand and catch serial killers by studying their damaged psyches. Along the way, the agents pioneer the development of modern serial-killer profiling. 

Charlize Theron and series creator Joe Penhall executive produced the series alongside Fincher, Beth Kono, Ceán Chaffin, Joshua Donen, and Courtenay Miles.
