Lars Von Trier is well known around these parts for being a controversial director. Hell, anyone, who even knows the name Lars Von Trier knows that controversy follows him around like Charlotte Gainsbourg with a pair of genital mutilating scissors. And so I guess it comes as no surprise that Von Trier's new film THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT is gathering up its own set of controversy over at Cannes this week as audience members walked out of its world premiere in mass.
Supposedly the walk-outs were the result of scenes that depicted a child getting shot and Matt Dillion's titular Jack mutilating Riley Keough. You can check out some of the choice tweets from outraged movie-goers below. But all of that aside, the film seems to be pretty damn good. After all, it earned a six-minute standing ovation from the crowd that made it all the way to the film's closing credits.
Starring Matt Dillon, Uma Thurman, Bruno Ganz, Riley Keough, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, and Sofie Grabol, the film is set in the 1970s and told
from Jack's point of view. He is a highly intelligent killer who has spent a decade perfecting the art of the perfect murder. But as the police begin to close in, he starts taking greater and greater risks in his attempt to create the ultimate artwork.
Is THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT that horrific? I guess we'll all see as I'm sure the film just sprang to the near-top of your must-see list, just like it has with mine. We'll make sure to keep you guys up-to-date on any and all news we hear surrounding the film, including just when IFC Films plans to release it later this year.
Stay tuned!

I've just walked out of #LarsVonTrier premiere at #Cannes2018 because seeing children being shot and killed is not art or entertainment
