Lamb trailer reveals more about A24’s Noomi Rapace thriller

Just three weeks ago, A24 released a trailer for their upcoming thriller Lamb that gave away absolutely nothing about the film's plot. Now another trailer for Lamb has arrived online to show just a little more of the movie, revealing that it tells the story of a couple taking in a sheep-human hybrid creature and raising it as their own. And if all the intense weirdness doesn't do anything for you, at least we get to hear a bit of The Beach Boys.

Along with the release of the new trailer comes confirmation that A24 will be giving the film a theatrical release on October 8th. 

The feature debut of Icelandic filmmaker Valdimar Jóhannsson, Lamb stars Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who speaks fluent Icelandic (as well as Danish, Norwegian, English, and of course Swedish). She is joined in the cast by Icelandic actors Hilmir Snaer Gudnason, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, and Ingvar Sigurdsson.

The film has the following synopsis: 

A childless couple in rural Iceland make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale.

An alternative synopsis says the film centers on 

a childless couple, María (Rapace) and Ingvar (Gudnason), who are sheep farmers in Iceland. On Christmas Eve they find a newborn who is half human, half sheep.

Jóhannsson wrote the screenplay with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón, who also co-wrote The Witch / The Lighthouse director Robert Eggers' upcoming epic historical thriller The Northman.

Lamb doesn't look like the sort of movie that will have me rushing out to see it in a theatre, but it appears to be so odd that I will have to watch it at some point down the line. The concept makes me think of the 1991 film Revenge of Billy the Kid, which took a very different approach to the idea of a human-animal hybrid.
