Kikuchi, Day, Gorman, and Urban may be in Pacific Rim: Uprising

With a recent Instagram post, PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING cinematographer Dan Mindel appears to have revealed that some of the stars of the first PACIFIC RIM will be returning for the Steven S. DeKnight-helmed sequel. A picture taken on the set of the film showed a list of actors and their character names, among them previously announced UPRISING cast members Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaerny.

The cast members on that list who haven't been previously announced? Rinko Kikuchi as Mako, Charlie Day as Newt, and Burn Gorman as Gottlieb, the roles they played in Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM.

The picture wasn't crystal clear, but it also looked like the cast list included Karl Urban as a character named Quan. When asked if he is involved with PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING, Urban was quick to deny it, saying that he does "look forward to seeing it, though."

Mindel has since deleted the picture of the cast list, leaving the incident shrouded in mystery. Did it contain accurate information? Are Kikuchi, Day, and Gorman really in the sequel? Is Karl Urban? Sure, he said he's not involved, but he's no stranger to twisting the truth to keep a movie's secrets (remember the "Benedict Cumberbatch isn't playing Khan" days before the release of STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS?)

We'll have to wait and see how this pans out. We know for sure that Eastwood and Spaeny's co-stars include John Boyega (playing the son of Idris Elba's character from the first PACIFIC RIM), Jing Tian, Levi Meaden, Adria Arjona, Ivanna Sahkno, Rahart Adams, Shyrley Rodriguez, Zhang Jin, Wesley Wong, Lily Ji, Chen Zitong, Lan Yingying, Qian Yongchen, Xiao Yang, and Kim Jeong-Hoon.

PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING is scheduled to reach theatres on February 23, 2018.
