Juan Carlos Fresnadillo bails on Highlander, who will direct Ryan Reynolds?

Just when it’s off the ground, the forces that be pull you back down…

After feeling pretty confident with the hire of Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, word is the Spanish filmmaker has decided to exit Summit’s HIGHLANDER reboot. As you know, many people have been attached to the flick, including Ryan Reynolds (who still is) to star. Word is the decision wasn’t a bitter one, but that ultimately the vision between the studio and director became too disparate to make it work. Of course, Fresnadillo also left THE CROW reboot, so who knows if this guy will be happy remaking other people’s work.

In the HIGHLANDER reboot, Reynolds will play Connor MacLeod, a Highlander who discovers he is one of a dwindling group of immortals who wander the earth and kill each other in combat for the final “Prize” – mortality.

Thing is, how long can Reynolds be attached without a director. My guess is a replacement is found soon to keep the star aligned. Remember, Justin Lin was also long attached, but he’ll simply exec-produce at this point.

So let’s just open it up and help Summit all we can. Point blank: who should direct HIGHLANDER with Ryan Reynolds in the title role?
