Looks like our boy Johnny Carpenter is back for good!
Not only has the man returned directorially (THE WARD, DARKCHYLDE), dude’s intent on refreshing his name in the producorial field as well. Variety reports Carpenter is set to produce a new horror flick called THE HELL WITHIN, which is set to be filmed in the Brazil’s Amazon Jungle. CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, anyone?!?
Scripted by Jeff Buhler (MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, INSANITARIUM), THE HELL WITHIN centers on a woman who goes on a quest into the heart of a Brazilian jungle to save a girl, only to discover that the girl was bait. Brazilian filmmaker Dennison Ramalho will direct. Barry Films will produce.
Yup, as vague as that sounds…I’m calling cannibal picture all the way…MAN FROM DEEP RIVER style (by the way, please don’t ever watch that movie)!
But really, this is only the 10th or so film Carpenter has produced, the last being a remake of his very own THE FOG in 2005. Could this signal a shift in the man’s newfangled role in the industry…has the man, either due to criticism or personal desire, decided the next phase in films is to produce instead of direct? Is he telling us something with this move?
