Remember the JACOB'S LADDER remake? Yeah, me neither. We last heard rumblings of it about two years ago, but all of a sudden it's exploding back into business. With principal photography set to begin in mid-May, producers have plumbed the cast and crew of the 2015 erotic thriller THE PERFECT GUY, nabbing star Michael Ealy and director David M. Rosenthal.
Ealy is perhaps best known for appearing in the Will Smith drama SEVEN POUNDS and the THINK LIKE A MAN series, but he has made several genre contibutions in the past, including roles in UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING, the TV series The Following, and the sci-fi series Almost Human. Rosenthal is likewise embroiled in horror, helming the roadside thriller HOW IT ENDS.
I still don't see any particular reason for them to remake JACOB'S LADDER, but at least this time they're picked a property that hasn't been heard from in quite a while.
So, far this is all we know about the reboot:
[It's] a modern day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.
Descriptive.
Here's the plot of the original 1990 film:
After returning home from the Vietnam War, veteran Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) struggles to maintain his sanity. Plagued by hallucinations and flashbacks, Singer rapidly falls apart as the world and people around him morph and twist into disturbing images. His girlfriend, Jezzie (Elizabeth Peña), and ex-wife, Sarah (Patricia Kalember), try to help, but to little avail. Even Singer's chiropractor friend, Louis (Danny Aiello), fails to reach him as he descends into madness.
