With TRANSFORMERS hitting the masses this summer, it’s no surprise that other cult-favorite cartoons from the 80s are being looked at for movie adaptations. More specifically: HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE! According to Variety, mega-producer Joel Silver has teamed with Mattel toys and Warner Bros. to produce the live-action flick, with Justin Marks writing the script.
This, after years of rumors saying that it was gonna happen and even director John Woo trying to get the adaptation off the ground, HE-MAN is finally making his way back to the big screen. Hard to believe it’s been some 20 years since our man Dolph Lundgren played the title character in the so-bad-it’s-good MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, and with today’s effects and budgets… one can only imagine what they’ll have instore for us.
Apparently Silver pitched the idea of going back to the show’s roots, making it a simple battle of Good vs Evil, and having it stylized in a way similar to 300. Let’s have that sink in a little bit. Yeah. Totally awesome! If you don’t remember, or if you’re just not in the know, HE-MAN is about a warrior touted as the last hope of a magical land called Eternia, which is being ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.
And by all accounts, Skeletor is one bad motor-scooter. Maybe the baddest of them all. No word on whether or not She-Ra will be making an appearnance or not, but stay tuned as we find out more about HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. I have the power of Greyskull!!!
