Details on Ridley Scott's upcoming PROMETHEUS sequel ALIEN: COVENANT are being kept under lock and key, at first because the nature of the movie was shifting so radically. Now, however, things are gearing up very nicely and the nature of the script is a lot more solid.
This lends credence to a rumor going around… Obviously, as always, you should take it with a grain of salt, but the studio response may lend a bit of credence to it. A story from The Playlist about Katherine Waterston may have just revealed an important detail about her character, which was swiftly removed from the article: She might just be playing the mother of Ellen Ripley, famously played by Sigourney Weaver in the first four ALIEN movies.
This would indicate that PROMETHEUS is rushing to link its timeline with the first film, because originally it was set in a time long before Ripley's butt-kicking presence. I can't wait to see how this plays out, because honestly I wouldn't mind a new film that's much closer to ALIEN than it was to PROMETHEUS.

Written by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan, ALIEN: COVENANT has been said to pick up 10 years after PROMETHEUS to tell the following story:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Michael Fassbender is reprising the role of David. Also in the cast are Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup, and Benjamin Rigby.
ALIEN: COVENANT is set to reach theatres on August 4, 2017.
