Earlier this year, GHOSTBUSTERS (2016) actress Leslie Jones made it clear she is not happy about director Jason Reitman's upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS 3. Then co-writer/director Paul Feig came to Jones' defense and also offered up his own thoughts on the new movie as well, saying he is very open to Reitman's new version but also sad that the 2016 team may not get to bust again. And it seems that's still how he feels as he recently thanked all the GHOSTBUSTERS (2016) fans out there that have been rallying for a sequel by saying:
Thank you so much, thank you for keeping the torch alive for Answer the Call. We’re hoping there’s a second call, and if we do get it, it’s all because of you.
If nothing else, I think Feig and his 2016 team can take solace in the fact that if the studio wanted a sequel to their version of GHOSTBUSTERS, they would still greenlight one. I don't think that having one GHOSTBUSTERS movie in the works means Sony will abandon all other possibilities. After all, GHOSTBUSTERS, SPIDER-MAN, and now I guess JUMANJI are only a few solid franchises they have going. What do YOU think? Let us know below!
For those of you that might not know, the all-female GHOSTBUSTERS movie followed this synopsis:
Paranormal researcher Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) and physicist Erin Gilbert are trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions appear in Manhattan, Gilbert and Yates turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann for help. Also joining the team is Patty Tolan, a lifelong New Yorker who knows the city inside and out. Armed with proton packs and plenty of attitudes, the four women prepare for an epic battle as more than 1,000 mischievous ghouls descend on Times Square.
GHOSTBUSTERS (2016) was directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay written by Katie Dippold and Feig based on the original film by Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis. Reitman and Amy Pascal produced the reboot/sequel and it starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Charles Dance, Michael Kenneth Williams, Chris Hemsworth, and the above-mentioned Leslie Jones.
