Last month, we got our first look at a special addition to the upcoming Friday the 13th: The Game – not only will the game feature Jason Voorhees as he looked in various FRIDAY THE 13TH films, giving players the option of playing as (or going up against) familiar versions of the character, it will also feature a very unique Jason. A Jason who has received a makeover from special effects legend Tom Savini, the man who created the look of child Jason in the original FRIDAY THE 13TH and the older, bloodier Jason of FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER.
Savini's Jason design is meant to show what the character might look like after spending some time in Hell. This look includes glimpses of hellfire burning within him, and some spikes inexplicably growing out of one of his shoulders. It also look like he might have stolen the devil's pitchfork/trident while he was in Hell.
This isn't a look I would want to see in a movie, but it's a cool thing to include in the game. I'm not completely into the look, I don't like those spikes and I have been referring to this Jason as a "Jason-o-lantern", but it's all in fun.
A new video shared by the game's developers shines a spotlight on Savini's Jason, giving the design a full reveal that is presented by its designer. Click play on the video below see this new Jason in action.
Friday the 13th: The Game was made with the cooperation of Sean S. Cunningham, director of the original FRIDAY THE 13TH. Series composer Harry Manfredini provided the score, Tom Savini designed some kills, and Kane Hodder did the motion capture performance to bring the game's Jason to life. Thom Mathews reprises his JASON LIVES: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI role of Tommy Jarvis in the game, and that film's writer/director Tom McLoughlin wrote "The Pamela Voorhees Tapes", audio recordings that players will be able to collect during a match and listen to later in the menu system.
