Last night, a Twentieth Century Fox employee took to the official Alien franchise Facebook page to close out Alien Day in the most appropriate way possible: with a sneak peek at the next installment in the series, the PROMETHEUS sequel/ALIEN prequel ALIEN: COVENANT, which is currently filming with original ALIEN director Ridley Scott at the helm.
We've seen some spy pics of the sets in New Zealand before, but this is the first official image to be released from the production.
The image that was posted can be seen above, and yeah, it's not much, but it does show that ALIEN: COVENANT is actually happening, that the Weyland-Yutani partnership has been established by the time period it's set in (which has been said to be 10 years after PROMETHEUS), and that the Covenant crew is working for The Company.
Written by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan, ALIEN: COVENANT has the following synopsis:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Michael Fassbender is reprising the role of David and has been joined in the cast by Katherine Waterston (pictured below), Danny McBride, Benjamin Rigby, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez, and Billy Crudup.
ALIEN: COVENANT will be bringing some familiar monsters back to the big screen when it's released on August 4, 2017.
