FilmRise to distribute The Greasy Strangler in North America

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

Word of mouth following the Sundance world premiere of director Jim Hosking's THE GREASY STRANGLER, which was co-produced by Elijah Wood through his company SpectreVision, is that the film is quite disgusting. This fall, FilmRise will be giving viewers across North America the chance to find out just how gross this movie is, as the company has acquired the distribution rights and will be teaming with Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas for a multi-market theatrical release.

“The Greasy Strangler” follows Ronnie, a man who runs a disco walking tour along with his browbeat son, Brayden. When an alluring woman comes to take the tour, it begins a competition between father and son for her attentions. It also signals the appearance of an oily, slimy, inhuman maniac who stalks the streets at night and strangles the innocent — soon dubbed ‘The Greasy Strangler.’

Stills from THE GREASY STRANGLER and familiarity with Hosking's style from the "G is for Grandad" segment of THE ABCs OF DEATH 2 already have me convinced that watching this film is going to be quite an unpleasant viewing experience… But I am intrigued to see how it plays out.

If you're attending the SXSW festival, you'll get a chance to see THE GREASY STRANGLER early. The film will be screening there this Friday night as a "Festival Favorite".
