Outcast, the upcoming Cinemax show from Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, has dipped its toe into a new style of promotion. This newest trailer is an interactive adventure, much like that "Choose Your Own Murder" game MTV used to promote Scream: The Series. Although obviously, it's a bit better.
The trailer, created by Campfire, uses 3D audio technology and eye-tracking software to create an immersive experience that uses viewers’ behavior – in this case, opening and closing their eyes – to explore the premise of the show and interact with the horror of “Outcast” firsthand. A webcam and headphones are recommended to achieve the maximum viewing experience but if a webcam isn’t available viewers will be prompted to use the space bar as a substitute.
You'll need to make sure your browser is up to date, but that concept is chilling enough to be worth checking out. Obviously, you can press the space bar if you're uncomfortable allowing access to your webcam, but this is the next step in totally immersive enertainment and it's pretty cool. You can check the whole thing out RIGHT HERE.
Outcast, which has already been renewed for a second season:
tells the story of Kyle Barnes, who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate — and the fate of the world — forever.
The ten episode first season stars Patrick Fugit, Philip Glenister, Kip Pardue, Reg E. Cathey, Julia Crockett, Allison Barnes, David Denman, Melinda McGraw, Grace Zabriskie, Catherine Dent, Brent Spiner, Lee Tergesen, and Wrenn Schmidt. The pilot will officially air on Cinemax on June 3rd. Check out the first episode, directed by Adam Wingard, in full below!
