Published by Quirk Books on April Fool's Day 2009, author Seth Grahame-Smith's novel PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, which inserted zombies into the story of Jane Austen's 1813 public domain novel Pride and Prejudice, became a surprise bestseller. On February 6, 2016, we'll find out how well the concept will go over with the movie-going audience, as that's the date Lionsgate has chosen for the release of their cinematic adaption of the Grahame-Smith/Austen mash-up.
A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in this reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield in order to conquer the undead once and for all.
Directed by Burr Steers, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES stars Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote, Douglas Booth, Matt Smith, Charles Dance, and Lena Headey.
We have seen a couple trailers for the film before, but if you just can't get enough previews of it, you can check out the new international trailer below. This one does a fine job of mixing the usual Jane Austen scenarios with a good amount of zombie killing action.
For once, I might actually watch a movie based on an Austen novel.
