Elisabeth Moss is on a genre movie streak, and it's not about to end just yet. Once the actress – who genre fans might have seen in US (watch it HERE) and THE INVISIBLE MAN (available HERE), among other things – is done workong on the thriller RUN RABBIT RUN, she is already signed on to executive produce and star in a "psychosexual neo-noir thriller" anthology series called Black Match for the Hulu streaming service.
Moss will be executive producing Black Match through her newly formed company Love & Squalor Pictures, which has Lindsey McManus on board as President of Film & TV. The show is part of the first-look deal Love & Squalor has secured with Fox 21 Television Studio and Hulu.
Mike Barker is attached to direct Black Match, which was scripted by Ian McCulloch. Barker and McCulloch will also be executive producing the show, as will Littlefield & Co.
An official synopsis for the show has not been released. Moss had this to say about forming her production company and landing the first-look deal:
I am so excited to have formed this company and established this partnership with Lindsey to find material ourselves and have real ownership as producers. We want to develop strong, unique stories for the big and small screen that we feel are inclusive and represent the world that we all see around us. We are very proud of the slate that we are building, comprised of projects that run the gamut from broad, commercial fare to darker, more challenging works. Craig Erwich and Hulu have been amazing partners on The Handmaid's Tale these past 3 seasons and I am thrilled to be starting a creative partnership with Bert Salke and everyone at Fox 21."
According to Deadline, other projects Love & Squalor Pictures has in the works include
Smacked, a film based on the book by Eilene Zimmerman about a journalist who pieces together the mysteries surrounding her ex-husband's descent into drug addiction while trying to rebuild a life for her family; Idaho, a feature based on Emily Ruskovich's debut novel about loss, grief, redemption, and the brutal disruptions of memory; and Imperfect Women, a TV project on the Araminta Hall book about the dark sides of female friendship told through the perspectives of three best friends after one of them is mysteriously murdered.
Anything Moss makes has my attention, so as a genre fan I like the fact that she keeps choosing to make thrillers, horror movies, and dark dramas. I look forward to seeing how this "psychosexual neo-noir thriller" show will turn out.
