Director Josh Boone's X-MEN horror movie THE NEW MUTANTS was supposed to hit the big screen back on April 13, 2018. Then it was delayed a whopping 10 months to February 22, 2019, before Fox eventually pushed the film back another six months to its current August 2, 2019 release date. And now Disney has taken control of the Fox property. So will it still be released in 2019? Yep, it looks like it.
Disney just released a picture of their upcoming release slate at CinemaCon and THE NEW MUTANTS was included. You can check out the pic below for confirmation. I'm not convinced and won't be until I see the movie at my local multiplex. But all the same, if the movie gets released, it will introduce
a diverse cadre of teens learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.
THE NEW MUTANTS is directed by Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Knate Lee based on the comic series by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt, and Lauren Shuler Donner produced the movie which stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga. Supposedly, Disney now plans to unleash the film on the masses sometime this year. Possibly on August 2, 2019. But really, who knows? We'll pass along word once we hear anything. As always.
