Dee Wallace says her 3 from Hell character is ‘way out there’

Yesterday, it was announced that Lionsgate and Saban Films are teaming up with Fathom Events to give Rob Zombie's upcoming HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES / THE DEVIL'S REJECTS sequel 3 FROM HELL a special three-day event theatrical release in September. You can read more about that event HERE.

The announcement was accompanied by a poster for the film, and on the bottom of that poster is an image of Dee Wallace in character as a rather stern-looking woman. During a new interview with Michael Gingold of Rue Morgue, Wallace (who previously worked with Zombie on HALLOWEEN and THE LORDS OF SALEM) talked a bit about her poster-worthy 3 FROM HELL character, a woman who looks so different from her normal self that co-stars Sid Haig and Bill Moseley didn't even recognize her when she first walked on set.

I play a character I’ve never played before, not particularly a nice one, and I have a lot of great scenes with Sheri Moon Zombie. … I thought, 'If I’m going to walk into this film, I’d better be willing to be pretty frickin’ out there.' I couldn’t let that little girl from Kansas be too afraid to go at it, because this woman, she’s waaaaay out there! When Rob called me about it and I read it, I said, 'Just give me a day. I want to make sure I can fully commit to this.' Well, it took me about an hour, and once she got into me, it was like, 'Oh my God, I have to do this character now!' It’s classic Rob Zombie, and everybody’s going to really get off on this ride."

Gingold mentioned that Moseley told him 3 FROM HELL is full of gratuitous violence, and he asked Wallace if this film is "the next step beyond" for Zombie. She replied, 

Well, honey, that’s classic Rob Zombie! I think everything Rob does is a further extension and exploration of his creative ability. He is one of the most complete creative people I’ve ever known, and such a nice guy. That’s why all these iconic actors, whenever he calls, we go, 'Yup. I’ll be there.' 3 FROM HELL goes back to his earlier work, but in a more evolved way. So if you’re a Rob Zombie fan, you ain’t going to be disappointed by this film!"

Now I'm really looking forward to watching Wallace play this character that was something new for her.

In addition to Wallace, Haig, Moseley, and Moon Zombie, 3 FROM HELL also stars Richard Brake, Danny Trejo, Daniel Roebuck, Clint Howard, Austin Stoker, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Richard Edson, Emilio Rivera, David Ury, Pancho Moler, Tom Papa, Dot-Marie Jones, Richard Riehle, Kevin Jackson, Billy Blair, Steven Michael Quezada, Bill Oberst Jr., Sylvia Jefferies, Sean Whalen, Chaz Bono, Barry Bostwick, and Jossara Jinaro.

The three-night theatrical event will take place on September 16, 17, and 18.
