Back in December rumors began to surface that Sony was planning a crossover between the 21 JUMP STREET and MEN IN BLACK franchises, and those rumors seemed to be somewhat confirmed in January when JUMP STREET directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord spoke about the future of the JUMP STREET franchise, stating that they were "focusing on what’s a great story for Schmidt and Jenko and how to tell the next chapter in their lives. And perhaps use creatures from another world at the same time.”
Now in an interview with Coming Soon Chris Miller has said that discussions have been taking place but that details haven't been thrashed out yet, stating…
Well, it’s very, very early on in this crazy fever pitch, but it’s definitely a really interesting concept that makes you think. Talking about it, developing it with Jonah and Channing and Rodney (Rothman, co-writer) and the studio, we can’t just do the, “Hey, it’s the same thing again” schtick because we did that already.
Crossing over the JUMP STREET films with the M.I.B. franchise is a crazy idea, but it just might work. Let's hope they roll the dice and go for it.
Lord and Miller are currently working on THE LEGO MOVIE 2, which isn't expected in theaters until 2018. Perhaps they can find time to fit in a JUMP STREET/MEN IN BLACK crossover beforehand. Here's hoping they can get Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith involved in some capacity as well.
