Bret Easton Ellis to make directorial debut with thriller series The Deleted

AMERICAN PSYCHO author Bret Easton Ellis has written his fair share of novels and screenplays, but he's never directed before, unless you count a handful of shorts spread out across the decade. 

However, the Fullscreen network is launching its Netflix-like streaming service tomorrow and have announced that they will be premiering The Deleted, a thriller series to be directed by Ellis. The network, which will cost $4.99 a month, will allow customers to search for shows based on their "vibe," including “feel all the feels,” “learn new things” or “laugh till it hurts.” Please excuse me while I throw up.

In The Deleted:

The disappearance of three seemingly unconnected people from Los Angeles triggers a collective paranoia among a group of twentysomethings, all of whom escaped from a cult ‎several years back.

Cultist themes have been very prevalent in the media lately, from 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to THE SACRAMENT, not to mention Jake Gyllenhaal's upcoming anthology series, the first season of which is focusing on Jim Jones. Is this where our obsession with the apocalypse has taken us?

At any rate, Ellis is sure to bring some of his inimitable personality to this dark concept, although I'm not sure how his sensibilities will match with the tweenybopper vibe of the streaming service.
