DEEP RISING writer-director Stephen Sommers' 1999 take on THE MUMMY starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz is a hell of a lot of fun. And so today we're excited to pass along word that Fraser is "all in" for returning for another entry if it ever happens.
Fraser says:
Absolutely! Just gotta say, I know how hard it is to make that movie. I tried to do it three times, and the essential ingredient is fun. You gotta remember to have fun. So if there’s a fun way to approach it again, I’m all in.
I have to say that even though THE MUMMY RETURNS and THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR was lacking at best, I'd still like to see a fun follow-up to the original semi-classic. How about you? Let us know below!
The original film followed this synopsis:
The Mummy is a rousing, suspenseful and horrifying epic about an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in 1925. Stumbling upon an ancient tomb, the hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror, which is embodied in the vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the living dead.
Stephen Sommers wrote and directed THE MUMMY while James Jacks produced the remake along with Sean Daniel. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz's co-stars included John Hannah, Jonathan Hyde, Kevin J. O'Connor, and Arnold Vosloo as the titular mummy. Universal Pictures unleashed the first flick into theaters back on May 7, 1999. Buy it on Blu-ray right HERE.
