The new film incarnation of FRIDAY THE 13TH has been batted around from filmmaker to filmmaker like a pinball, but it's coming to rest once more! Currently in talks to direct the film is Breck Eisner, a man who has had previous remake experience with THE CRAZIES. His most recent film was THE LAST WITCH HUNTER, the inscrutable Vin Diesel vehicle. So his track record isn't tip top, but the fact that we're still hearing developments from this movie is always great news.
The film has reportedly been fast tracked by the studio and is due for release sometime next year.
The last hint we've gotten of a plot for this movie is a quote from Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller, discussing how the film will create an "alternate timeline" for Jason's history, though this is not an origin story:
Yes, Pamela and Jason are together in this film, but this is the same Jason we all know and love. He’s Jason; he kills – he kills teenagers. We went down the origin route with the second Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, and I think when you go too deep into a character’s origin, the character stops being scary at some point. I’m not worried about demystifying Jason by revealing parts of his back story, which most of the fans are familiar with.
The script is being written by Aaron Guzikowski.
