If you are on Arrow in the Head, it's a very safe bet that you like scary movies. In fact, I myself absolutely love scary movies. Can you imagine stepping into a world that is inspired by flicks like A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, IT, BEETLEJUICE, THE SHINING and THE LOST BOYS? One that recreates these worlds in creatively creepy ways? Well now you don’t need to imagine. If you live in or around Los Angeles, there is something that has come out of the shadows that is pure genre magic. I Like Scary Movies is a multi-sensory experience like no other. It's not a haunted house where people in costumes try and scare you. It's something that I've never really done before. You could best describe it as an “Interactive Art Installation.” A place where you walk through an incredible genre exhibit that brings your favorite horror characters to life in ridiculously creative ways.
The man behind this is Maximillian – an experimental artist who has helped bring movies to life in a variety of incredible ways at Comic Con and beyond. Together with Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema, he has crafted an immersive art experience bringing fans to some of the wildest cinematic themed places you could ever desire. This isn’t simply recreating scenes like you would see in a walk through maze. This is a visual and sensory experience that is movie magic come to life. You can wander through Freddy Krueger’s boiler room where a massive version of his iconic glove reaches out ready to slash the next victim. Imagine wandering through the Overlook Hotel, in a way that you’ve certainly never experienced before. Or how about one of the creepiest waiting rooms in history while you take the chance of repeating the name “Beetlejuice” three times. The artist has recreated each section in a thrilling and inventive way, where everyone in attendance can become a part of the living art.
As a fan of immersive experiences, I Like Scary Movies is an event that is not to be missed. Impressively enough, the small group of industry professionals I was with didn’t even witness this horror themed experience in its full glory. However, I will be returning to see the sights… and step inside the Pennywise’ Deadlights, as well as a few other amazing worlds. Opening to the public on April 4th, this is one horror themed nightmare come to life that you won’t want to miss. For more information, you can visit the official website for I Like Scary Movies here. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Even if you don’t love the movies featured – of course I’m sure a vast majority of you do – this is the type of event that will give genre fans something to scream about. You can float. You can hang with the ghost with the most. And you face Freddy Krueger and his inventively horrific nightmares face to face. You’re sure to love everything that I Like Scary Movies has to offer!
