ABC orders 13 episodes of X-Files like paranormal series Weird Desk

ABC has just pulled up to a “Weird Desk.”

According to Deadline, the network has put in a 13-episode order for the “X-Files” like paranormal series “Weird Desk” to be assembled for air by next summer. Christina Jennings’ Canadian production company Shaftesbury is running the show. Carl Binder (Stargate) and David Titcher (“The Librarian”) wrote the pilot script.

Weird Desk is in the vein of The X Files. Based on the alleged real-life mysteries from this world and beyond, it centers on the workings of a clandestine organization rumored to be named “Weird Desk.” Working above the levels of top secret and above the office of the President, the unit is the destination for mysterious intelligence rerouted from the CIA and NSA. Tasked with investigating and solving occurrences of the paranormal, supernatural and sometimes extra-terrestrial, “Weird Desk” is led by Morgan, an obstinate, socially inept and brilliant man who would now be dead if it weren’t for his special forces trained partner, Rosetta.

Sounds cool enough, but on ABC? Didn’t they just shut down “666 Park Ave”? Again, with more free reign at FX, AMC, HBO & Showtime, major network horror hardly stands a chance. Did work for “The X-Files” though, but I can’t see “Weird Desk” as being on par with such a great show.

You?
