Back in 2014, 88 Films released a PAL DVD of a 1980s slasher that has somehow eluded me, director Don Gronquist’s 1982 film UNHINGED, which had been banned in the UK as a Video Nasty. Now 88 Films is teaming with ITN Distribution to release a remake of UNHINGED on DVD and VOD this September.
According to IMDb, the original film told the following story:
Three college girls on their way to a jazz festival crash their car in the isolated woods during a rainstorm and are taken in by a mysterious family in an old mansion. Little do the girls know, the family has a dark, murderous secret.
The feature directorial debut of Dan Allen, the UNHINGED remake tells the story of
Melissa and her three American bridesmaids, who decide to take the English back roads whilst travelling to her wedding in the countryside. On the way, a deadly secret forces the girls to be stranded in the woods. They discover a house, occupied by Miss Perkins, who promises to look after them until they find help. Little do the girls know, a dark evil lurks in and around the grounds of the house. Only when the girls come face to face with ‘it’ will they truly discover what real horror is…
The remake was shot in England last September and is currently in post-production. The film stars Kate Greer, Lucy-Jane Quinlan, Becky Fletcher, Lorena Andrea, Michelle Archer, Louisa Warren, and Faye Goodwin.
Well, I definitely need to watch the original UNHINGED, because I love ’80s slashers. Then I’ll be prepared to check out the remake later this year. Daily Dead got the exclusive first look at the trailer, which can be seen below.
